The traditional Chinese carved rugs have soft, neutral colour palettes and delicate floral designs. Typically, once a rug has been created, it will be sheared to have an even pile height. Common among Chinese rugs, “carving” is done after a rug has been trimmed to create lower areas and texture by shearing around design elements. This technique accentuates the texture and depth of a rug, adding another element of interest to the already attractive rug.
